This has to be one of my favorite apps of all time.

This has to be one of my favorite apps of all time. It is so fun to play with and helped me immensely when pricing and making travel routes for our 2 month stay in Italy next year.  In my opinion this one is a must!

“Create lists of your favorite places and share with friends. No signal? Use Google maps offline.”

I mapped out our San Francisco itinerary on Google maps before our trip and used it as our guide during our stay.

If Google maps doesn’t offer your upcoming location offline don’t fret. Just download this app and buy the offline map for your next trip. Bonus: the first download is free. So you won’t have to spend any money to fall in love!

If you’re traveling Internationally and not super confident in your foreign language skills this is the app for you!

Duolingo

“Learn a language for free. Forever.”

I love this app and can’t believe it’s free! They make you type the language and speak it into your phone. It also has a turtle option if you need to slow down the interpretation. They also offer conversations in your chosen language.

Accommodations

Hotel Tonight

“Hotels give us their unsold rooms. We give you great deals. Get them exclusively on your mobile device, up to a week in advance.”

This app is a great way to check local availability for the night.

This app is a great way to check local availability for the night. If your flight is cancelled or you just like sporadic travels this is the app for you!  Always call directly to see if you can get a better rate before booking.

Hostelworld

“Search and book more than 33,000 properties in over 170 countries, from anywhere.”

Hostels are a great way to score affordable housing and make some new friends. Many offer private rooms as well. So be sure to download this app before your next adventure!

Airbnb/VRBO

“Rent a whole house for half the price of a hotel.”


We have scored some great deals on these websites and use them to rent our own home out as well while we travel. Just be sure to use the verified payment options when booking so you’re protected.

Housesitter.com

“Avoid travel anxiety. We’ll help you find someone who will ensure your fish is fed, plants are watered and that your home is taken care of.”

If you have a pet, garden, or home that needs care while you’re away or if you might be interested in caring for someone else’s in exchange for housing this is the app for you!


Transportation

UberLyft, Ubereats

Tap a button, get a ride, Always on, always available, You rate, we listen


Choose your ride and set your location. You'll see your driver's picture and vehicle details, and can track their arrival on the map.

Get the food you want, from the restaurants you love, delivered at Uber speed.

Ubereats has an impressive list of available cities. If you just arrived at your destination or have had a long day on your feet this might just be the option for you!

Metro and/or Bus App for your location such as

Paris Metro MapTube Map London Underground Routes, NYC Subway/Bus/Rail

Be sure to research a good metro app for your location if you are traveling to a large city. These can be lifesavers, as the metro can be difficult to navigate in unfamiliar territory.

Your favorite airline app - United, Delta, etc.

The Mobile Passport app speeds you through U.S. Customs and Border Protection at 1 cruise port and 24 airports.

Find out which airlines fly your desired route, compare prices, get price updates or choose the “I’m feeling lucky” option to let Google pick for you.

Provides and overview of all flights worldwide. Compare flights and find new possibilities. 

When I’m not sure which airlines fly my desired route this is my goto site.

Sleepinginairports.net

Airport guides, where to sleep, wifi info, city transportation options, best & worst airports, and more. This site has everything you need to know about the airports you're traveling through.

Roadtrippers and/or Tripadviser

Roadtrippers is fun because it’s kind of a mix between google maps and tripadviser. You can search a location for sights, restaurants, hotels, etc. and map them out. You can also get travel guides and recommendations for your destination. Tripadviser is my go to for reviews when researching a site, activity, or accommodation.
